Mark Herbst, of Hartford, was arrested on Wednesday, Dec. 8, and charged with negligent homicide with a motor vehicle, according to Connecticut State Police.

Police said the crash happened at about 5:30 p.m. on Jan. 4 in Glastonbury.

A 2012 Mercedes-Benz ML350, driven by Herbst, struck a 2004 Toyota Camry on Route 2 Westbound near the Exit 9 on-ramp, authorities said.

Investigators found that the Mercedes-Benz traveled from the right lane into the shoulder and struck the Camry, which was stopped, State Police reported.

The driver of the Camry, identified as Marie Mathieu, of Colchester, was extricated from the car after the crash and hospitalized with serious injuries. Police said she was pronounced dead at the hospital.

Herbst was also charged with failure to maintain the proper lane and failure to wear a seat safety belt, authorities said.

He was released on bond, and is scheduled to appear in court on Friday, Jan. 7, police reported.
